BME Seminars: Loïc AUVRAY

The next BME seminar will take place on Friday 14th december with a lecture of Loïc AUVRAY from the University Paris Diderot and CNRS (see attached flyer). His conference is entitled " Biosensing with channels: transporting macromolecules through nanopores ".

Our group and several others in the world are studying the transport of single macromolecules through short and narrow channels of nanometric size by using a simple electrical detection, based on the change of conductance induced by the presence of a macromolecule in a channel. I will present experiments done by using natural passive protein channels reconstituted in lipid bilayers or by using solid state nanopores  drilled in ultrathin (10-100 nm) Silicon Carbide or Silicon Nitride membranes by Focused Ion Beam (FIB) or electron beam. I will describe how we use nanopores for studying the conformation and the dynamics of partially unfolded proteins, varying the pore size and comparing different mutants differing by their folding properties. I will also describe and discuss other applications such as force measurements, macromolecules manipulations or ultrafast DNA sequencing by nanopores and show that an optical detection of the transport of molecules through nanopores is possible.

The conference will take place at the Arts & Métiers ParisTech, 151 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris, Amphi Fournel, from 13h30 to 15h00.
