Tomorrow, Friday, April 29th 2016, will have the great pleasure of hosting a talk given by Abdul BARAKAT, Director of Research at the CNRS, Hydrodynamics Laboratory (Laboratoire d'Hydrodynamique - LadHyX), and Professor in the Departments of Mechanics and Biology at École Polytechnique. The conference will be held between 1:30 pm and 3 pm in lecture theatre Fournel at ENSAM ParisTech. The seminar will focus on “An Engineer's Perspective on Atherosclerosis: From Cells to Connected Devices”.
Abstract
The pathological complications of atherosclerosis, namely heart attacks and strokes, are the leading cause of mortality in the world. In this talk, I will focus on how engineering approaches can provide critical insight into the development and treatment of atherosclerosis at scales ranging from individual cells to whole tissues. I will present our work in the following three areas: 1) vascular cell mechanotransduction, 2) nanopartlcie-mediated targeted drug delivery, and 3) optimization of today's stents and the development of tomorrow's smart and connected stents.
