On Friday, December 19th, we will have the pleasure of hosting a talk given by Dominique Chapelle, team leader of the INRIA research team M3DISM, membr of the editoriol boards of Computers and Structures and M2AN, member of the academic senate of FCS Paris-Saclay and member of the board of directors of th VPH institute. The lecture will be held between 1:30 pm and 3 pm in lecture theatre Fournel at ENSAM ParisTech. The seminar topic will be: "Biomechanical modeling of the heart: from multiphysics formulations to patient-specific simulations, with experimental validations and clinical applications".


 The heart undergoes some highly complex multi-scale multi-physics phenomena which must be accounted for in order to adequately model the biomechanical behavior of the complete organ. In this respect, a major focus of our work has been on formulating modeling ingredients that satisfy the most crucial thermomechanical requirements - in particular as regards energy balances - throughout the various forms of physical and scale-related couplings. This has led to a "beating heart" model, which additionally can be made "patient-specific" by some adequate inverse modeling methodologies that benefit from the clinical data available for a given patient - medical imaging, in particular - with important perspectives in diagnosis and prognosis assistance. In this talk I will present our modeling approach, with some experimental validations and preliminary clinical applications.
