Seminar announcement flyer

Our next "Open Your Mind" seminar is scheduled for Friday, October 24th and will be held in lecture theatre Fournel (Amphi Fournel), Arts et Métiers ParisTech (151 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris) between 1:30 pm and 3 pm. The seminar will be given by Rachele Allena, assistant Professor at the Institut de Biomécanique Humaine Georges Charpak Arts et Métiers ParisTech and co-chair of the BioMAT track of the BioMedical Engineering Master ParisTech. The seminar topic will be “Mechanical models to explore cell migration in different configurations”. For more details, please refer to the attached abstract and biography.

Abstract:
Cell migration plays a fundamental role during several biological phenomena such as embryogenesis, wound healing, immune response and tumorogenesis. Furthermore, it has been recently shown that mechanics may be critical during such processes. Numerical models may help in better understanding how cells behave and interact and may allow to evaluate stresses and strains that are still difficult to quantify experimentally. In this lecture, I will present new finite element models of cell migration which couple biology and mechanics to describe large viscoelastic deformations and anisotropy of the cells in different configurations (i.e. confined environment or rigidity of the substrate).
