On the 20th December, the BME seminars "Open Your Mind" will host a conference of Florelle Gindraux from Université de Franche-Comté (Besançon, France). Her talk will focus on: "AMNIOTIC MEMBRANE FOR BONE REPAIR ? Reflection around of the Masquelet technique to one stage".

The conference will take place on Friday 20th december at Arts & Métiers ParisTech, 151 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris, Amphi Fournel, from 13h30 to 15h00.


"Previous clinical and experimental studies conducted at the University Hospital of Besançon have shown the efficacy of a foreign body induced membrane combined with bone graft for the reconstruction of wide bone defects. The induced membrane (Masquelet’s technique) has the properties to avoid resorption of the bone autograft and to promote consolidation by revascularisation of the bone and secretion of growth factors. Reconstruction requires 2 different surgical stages: firstly, insertion of a cement spacer in the defect, and secondly, removal of the spacer and filling of the cavity by bone autograft harvested from the iliac crest. Human amniotic membrane (hAM) is an abundantly available tissue (derived from the placenta) with many possibilities for regenerative medicine : anti-inflammatory, anti- scarring, anti-fibrotic or analgesic effects and attractive biomaterial for clinical wound and ophthalmologic treatments, soft tissue reconstruction (Gindraux, 2013) or reduction of adhesions. We have recognized that hAM represents, preformed sheet including highly potent stem cells that could be used for bone repair application and we sought that hAM could: 1) substitute the bone autograft (or at least reduce its collected quantity) and 2) replace the induced membrane by avoiding the first step of Masquelet’s technique."
