BME Seminar Carolyn Anglin

The BME seminars "Open Your Mind" will host a conference of Carolyn Anglin (see attached flyer for a short bibliography) who is Associate Professor at the University of Calgary, Canada. The conference is entitled " Shape and Kinematics Before and After Knee Replacement Surgery ".

The conference will take place on Friday 08th november at Arts & Métiers ParisTech, 151 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris, Amphi Fournel, from 13h30 to 15h00.

"Knee replacement surgery, also called total knee arthroplasty (TKA), is performed in cases of severe arthritis to reduce pain and improve function. Unfortunately, about 18% of patients are not satisfied with their surgery. An important factor is that the shape and kinematics of the joint change substantially before and after surgery, yet these changes have not been fully documented. We used novel computed tomography (CT) and radiographic (X-ray) protocols to determine the shape and kinematics before and after surgery, as well as for patients with two different implant designs (attached paper), and patients with and without pain. The results revealed important differences that should be taken into account in implant design and placement."
